From the Roman road of Ermine Street to a medieval moated enclosure at Prestley Wood, Alconbury Weald is nestled within an ancient historic landscape which long predates the RAF base.

Oxford Archaeology East have been investigating the archaeology of the former Alconbury Airfield and the surrounding area for over twenty years. Now, in autumn 2022, we are returning to excavate an area of Iron Age settlement identified at Grange Farm, on the far south-east of the proposed development.

Our team in the field will be posting regular updates on this blog over the coming months.
